Influence Science and Practice

How to Win Friends and Influence People

Everything's Negotiable
Cialdini's "Influence - science and practice" is an immensely readable, useful and applicable book that helps you understand what influences you throughout your life, how other people use these principles to their own advantage and how you can too. A great book for anyone who wants to get the results they want, more easily and more often!
Simply the definitive book of teaching tales from the world of ethical business success. It's essentially a book of stories from people like you about building better relationships in life and in business
Everything is negotiable is a book I can't recommend highly enough. It's very easy to read, nicely packaged as a balance of stories and practical exercises and it does the difficult job of getting you to think hard about your own negotiating abilities without being critical. The stories are great, it's fun to read and you simply can't avoid becoming a more aware negotiator.
Quirkology The Five Dysfunctions of a Team The Full Facts Book of Cold Reading

Quirkology Anyone interested in this strange phenomena that we call life should read this book.

Not only is it engagingly written, it is based on fascinatingly real experiments rather than the new age conjucture that spoils other books on the subject of everyday psychology, and it gives you the foundations under many of Derren Brown's routines which Richard Wiseman created first as experiments.

The Five Dysfunctions of a Team is an interesting view on leadership and creating a team that gets results; it's not a list of all the things you have to do like other books on the subject but instead a list of 5 simple barriers to a naturally high performing team, told partly through a fictional tale of a CEO shaping her new team. The Full Facts Book of Cold Reading is a great collection of cold reading principles and practice that I believe are a vital part of any coach's toolkit. Without employing these thousands of years old principles, you might look like just another coach reading recipes out of the course manual. With them, you are transferred into someone who has the power to make the changes your clients seek. After all, that's what they're paying you to do.

NLP in 21 days is really NLP in 21 chapters, and that makes it an introduction to the subject that's easy to read and understand. It's practical and useful and if you tend to read when you can grab five minutes, it's ideal. If you want to find out what NLP is and what you can do with it, this is an ideal first introduction the subject.

The Amazing Kreskin was an American mentalist who predated Derren Brown by 30 years.

In this excellent book, he tells his story, shares his phiosophy and reveals many of his secrets - in a fascinating and enlightening way that allows you to perform many of his tricks yourself.

The Alchemist is a book about... whatever it means for you. Life's journey, the story of your own pursuit of your destiny or just a story about a boy searching for his treasure.

I often give this book to my coaching clients to help them find their way, and they all love it. I believe that when the time is right for you to pursue your dreams, you'll be ready to read this book.

Scott Adams' parody of management books is - like much great humour - very accurate and surprisingly practical. Almost as good as Change Magic (!)

The Dilbert principle is definitely the antidote to management fads and that organisational leadership style that we all know is fast becoming extinct - but not quite fast enough.

Using your brain for a change is probably the book that Frogs into Princes tried to be. Rather than just a transcript of seminars, this is a book that gives you ways to practically apply some of the key tools modelled using NLP.

If you work with people from other cultures, you need this book. It profiles people from around the world against a series of cultural benchmarks, helping you to understand relationships, working patterns and expectations of your international colleagues. It isn't a book of social rules - it's far more important, and helps you to understand the perceptual foundations of those rules.

Structure of Magic is the original work by Bandler and Grinder to code NLP's linguistic structures, as modelled from people like Milton Erickson. Whilst the mathematical bits can be hard going, if you're into language and want to be more precise and more consistent, this is certainly a book you should take the time to explore.

Words that change minds is a catalogue of NLP's metaprograms - the building blocks of the profile used to build up a map of an individual's behavioural preferences. The profile elements aren't true and fixed, they're useful and context driven. The key advantage of this profile is that it's based on normal conversation, not on a questionnaire so you can use it any time, or all the time!

Frogs into princes is the original NLP book. A transcript of early training seminars, I don't think Bandler and Grinder quite knew what they were up to when this was first written, so there's a goldmine of information in this book if you take the time to read between the lines and notice what went un-noticed in those early days of NLP.
